just started with this course and I am able to realize where the power struggle comes from, there is a way we learn how to correct children in my country and this class has made me realized I need to unlearn that method because it only gives the little ones more power over parent and we blame them all the time for always misbehaving not knowing it was a pattern we lay down for them… I’m so happy to come across this lecture…

Just started this course and find it an interesting article. I have lost so many battles that miss 6 is becoming a very unpleasant terror at bedtime.

I read a piece about a rabbi who when asked how many time it takes to train an acolyte into a correct behavior, the rabbi said, “400 times.” When his student asked, “What if you instill fear of retribution?”

Without hesitation the rabbi replied, “At least twice as many.”

Great article. I hear people all the time say, “You have to pick your battles,” but somehow I think that’s also avoiding instruction. I’d rather take your suggestion, “Every time your child misbehaves in a specific way, you need to decide how to respond, and use that exact same response every single time your child misbehaves in that same way.” It’s WAY more beneficial for everyone involved. I’ve been getting a lot of encouragement as a parent from a brand new book I’ve been reading by Dr. Tony Evans called “Raising Kingdom Kids: Giving Your Child a Living Faith.” Besides wisdom for growing in confidence and discovering our worth as parents, he teaches trading reactive parenting for intentional parenting. He says, “It’s far easier to SHAPE A CHILD than to REPAIR AN ADULT.” Equipping and guiding our children starts with us, parents! This is the most solid, thorough, inspirational and affirming parent book you’ll ever read! I love it and HIGHLY recommend it for all parents!

Wow, fantastic article. I couldn’t agree more, since my own child is now 3 years old. Just around last year was when she started to resist and do what she wanted. We did our best to be firm that that wasn’t right. This is such a ripe age and just the age where setting these grounds are so important. Thanks so much for this important knowledge for new parents.
