You should thought ahead and child proofed those doors after you bought the house. Sliding mirror else’s doors should not be in your child’s room to begin with. You and your husband were both negligent and just plain stupid to leave those doors up. Parents need to think ahead and foresee dangerous situations like that. I blame ypu, the parents, not the child for not negating that danger before hand. It’s almost sounds like you are more concern with punishing your child instead of making his environment safe. It wouldn’t have killed you too take those doors off. I would have removed them from my daughter’s room instead leaving them in and spanking her for messing with them. Maybe you’re a sadist who enjoys hitting your child. What if he would of broke them and got seriously hurt or bled to death. You both would have been guilty of negligence in my book. My name is Richard and I need to respond to your post. I’m a single father of seven beautiful girls. My youngest is 12 and my oldest is 23. Im a retired grade school teacher who stood up against corporal punishment in schools and I have been a crisis counselor for the past twenty five years dealing with abused children. Believe me I have seen the horrors of what can happen when you start hitting children. Every parent should see and hear what I have and it will change their minds about hitting and spanking. I raised my girls without hitting and spanking and they are turning out beautifully. There is never a reason to hit a child. All you parents out there that use hitting and spanking as punishment are incompetent and sick of just plain ignorant. My girls and I have mutual love, understanding, compassion and respect for each other. A good portion of discipline is talking out the problems calmly with logical and realistic positive consequences. I set reasonable boundaries and limits for my girls. I would like to introduce my girls to you: my youngest, Nova (12), twins Dafne and Daveigh (14), Evie (16), Johanna (18), Shayn (21), and my oldest, Nevada (23) and I have a foster daughter Ana (8).
